The History of the Gothic Sub Culture

The Gothic individual uses a style of dressing that stems from an array of genres including the Victorian era, Punk and Renaissance. This can sometimes be used in conjunction with contemporary clothing styles.

Gothic dressers are often viewed as unique in their attempts to break with the traditional sense of dressing. Their use of black being a characteristic trait of the Gothic sub culture movement.

In the decline of the Punk culture in the 1980's the Gothic sub culture evolved. The word Gothic has emanated from the times of the Crimea from the Gothic tribes of East Germanic origin. This has since been a term associated with fashion, architecture and art.

Gothic romanticism especially originated in Britain as an established art form. The UK and Germany may stand as fundamental in the movement but this has become not only European but a worldwide following.
